Blanc: A Fresh Take on Japanese Minimalist Design

Yu-Chen Lin's Award-Winning Residential Design Combines Elegance and Functionality

In the world of interior design, the fusion of form and function is paramount. Yu-Chen Lin's Blanc project, a residential design inspired by Japanese minimalism, is a perfect embodiment of this principle. With a keen eye for detail, Lin has created a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and comfortable for its inhabitants.

Blanc's design is characterized by its use of natural materials and a soft color palette of white, gray, and brown. The design team drew inspiration from wood grain and grilles to create a fresh, bright atmosphere in the space. Architectural concrete was also incorporated to highlight specific parts of the design, adding a diversified visual effect.

The project's unique properties lie in its careful planning of traffic flow and visual presentation. The living room and dining room are separated by a sliding door, which not only increases lighting in the dining and kitchen area but also allows for the spaces to be separated when needed. This thoughtful design choice effectively blocks cooking odors from permeating the living room.

The design's realization technology includes the use of materials such as wood grille, super wear-resistant wood flooring, high definition printing boards imported from Japan, architectural concrete coating, glass, iron parts, and system boards. The combination of these materials creates a Japanese home atmosphere that is both clean and comforting.

Blanc is a newly completed house with 122 square meters of space. It features a public area for living, dining, and kitchen on the ground floor, a master bedroom on the second floor, and a double bedroom on the third floor. The entire space is decorated in light tones, with brown, white, and gray accents in the public area to convey the Japanese style. The master bedroom in the private area features the same elements but with a slightly warmer orange tone.

The project was completed in March 2021 in Taiwan. Despite the challenges posed by the original dining room and kitchen's combined layout, the design team was able to overcome these obstacles and create a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. This achievement earned Blanc the Iron A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023, a testament to its well-designed, practical, and innovative creation.
